March For Forests

You can have tons of fun with a speaker strapped to your back and a crowd of people who care.

It is human to care.
It is human to feel.
It is human to “do something about it”.
It actually feels really good.

This is us (a whole bunch of hippie tree-huggers and environmentalists) protesting the Lithuanian government’s inadequate policies concerning age-old forests and the timber industry. “Ancient” woodland eco-systems here are treated with the same regards as farmed forests. We’re not cool with that.

As humans who care for nature, as Lithuanians who are supposed to be “green”, it is only natural to take to the streets and give a voice to the trees and animals that are the victims of poor policy and callous, near-sighted profit-driven stupidity.

I also have a personal agenda to make people understand that coming together, that raising your voice, that expressing outrage is not only human – it feels awfully good as well. Coming together with other human beings which share the same beliefs, preoccupations, and hurt reminds you that you are not crazy – “or fallen off a branch” as local Lithuanians would colloquially say. Coming together creates a home for those of us who believe that change is possible, and fighting for it is in our blood.
